Division of Human Science and Medical Engineering

Studies the phenomena of life in a comprehensive manner from the viewpoints of medicine, nutrition, and engineering, and provides professional education for co-medical staff.

Recent years have seen remarkable technological advances in medicine, and society is now demanding the improvement of the quality of all professionals working in team medicine. The co-medical field has been further divided into subfields, in each of which there is a desire to nurture human resources having advanced knowledge and skills. In particular, it is expected that researchers who have been educated in certain fields will become leaders in those fields. It is the overall goal of the division to foster human resources that have mastered their specialized fields based on the basic medical science fields and who can then set out to benefit society. In the basic medical science fields, the goal of the division is for students to improve their general understanding of life sciences and essential medicine. In the medical engineering field, the division deals with the engineering aspects of medicine, such as bioengineering and biometrics. In the medical nutrition field, we are seeing the deepening and expanding of the area of medical nutrition, which is closely related to both preventive care and preventive medicine, now the focus of considerable interest, requiring further education of the public about nutrition.

Objective of the division

The objective of the Division of Human Science and Medical Engineering is to foster human resources that can assume a position of leadership in the fields of medicine and education as co-medical staff who are capable of scientific thinking, by taking a comprehensive approach to teaching them about life phenomena from the standpoints of medicine, nutrition, and engineering.

Division of Human Science

Studies "humans" in a comprehensive manner from a variety of angles.

The ultimate goal of the Division of Human Science is to consider "what humans are" and search for corresponding answers. Doing so requires that humans be studied from a variety of viewpoints rather than merely capturing only certain aspects. Thus, the Division of Human Science covers a wide variety of academic areas. This division analyzes and studies humans mainly from the philosophical and psychological areas in which we deal with "what humans have thought of in the past and what they are thinking of in the present," historical and cultural areas in which we can think of "the cultures and civilizations created by humans," and the health science and sports science areas in which we consider the "bodies of humans themselves." Thus, the Division of Human Science is characterized in that students can deepen the understanding of research issues to find answers by studying not only its own specialized field, but also different academic areas, while effectively looking at issues from a range of perspectives and from a comprehensive range of viewpoints.

Objective of the division

The objective of the Division of Human Science is to foster human resources that can break through the conventional, divided areas of research and who can undertake research into humans based on the "minds and bodies" of humans by taking a comprehensive range of viewpoints, including those of the humanities, social science, and natural science.

Cultivates comprehensive thinking and creativity to satisfy the future needs of society.

Today, design is not limited to the technologies for creating added value for production systems, or to technologies for images for interfacing with information, but has instead become more advanced. The reason for this is that, because of its nature, the scope of design can include such small items as everyday housewares and such large items as city plans. Nowadays, however, the idea has become widespread that even small items around us are not only considered in terms of their usefulness and aesthetic added value, but are also associated with the environments of the earth and the universe. Thus, design now includes approaches to environmental issues. Suffice to say that design has developed into something that we can call "geo-philosophy." For this reason, the Division of Advanced Studies in Arts and Design not only teaches specialized design subjects but also guides students so that they can broaden their horizons by taking subjects offered by other divisions. As described thus far, in the Graduate School of Integrated Science and Art, University of East Asia, students can learn to grasp design from a broad viewpoint and from various perspectives.

Objective of the division

The objective of the Division of Advanced Studies in Arts and Design is to cultivate comprehensive thinking and creativity by tackling design from various perspectives based on today's trends in design, which has developed rapidly and in close relationship with various other fields, and to foster human resources that can satisfy the future needs of society.

Division of Clinical Psychology

Fosters professionals that can deal with "mental problems."

Clinical psychology is a practical academic area that attempts to solve various problems afflicting human society, ranging from psychological problems such as anxiety and fear, to other problems such as truancy, bullying, and abuse. This academic area is about to produce new human knowledge that goes beyond conventional academic areas and scientific knowledge, and is unique in being an academic area with its roots in 21st century. At the same time, it fosters highly specialized professionals; for example, it nurtures clinical psychologists that can work actively as school counselors and therapists who can benefit society. The Graduate School is a designated school (class 1) of the Foundation of the Japanese Certification Board for Clinical Psychologists; those students who have completed their sophomore year can take their examinations to qualify as "clinical psychologists."
